Or does someone you love have braces?<\/span><\/strong><\/span> Underneath all that metal, your beautiful pearly whites are moving\u2014and, inching you ever closer each day toward an absolutely fantastic smile!<\/strong><\/em>Dr. Patti Bradley<\/strong><\/a>reminds us, \u201cWouldn\u2019t it be a shame, if once those braces came off, you had a bunch of cavities under there!? That would be awful!\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

All the gadgetry in your mouth\u2014from the springs and the wires to the rubber bands and spacers\u2014can attract food AND plaque. Dr. David Bradley<\/a><\/strong>, here at Lake Oconee Dental<\/a><\/strong>, reminds each of us with braces, \u201cIt\u2019s important to brush properly and to use floss and\/or mouthwash per your orthodontist\u2019s recommendations. When plaque is left behind on your teeth and around your braces it can cause your gums to swell, your teeth to become discolored, chronic bad breath and even (sometimes) cavities.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Cleaning Your Braces The Right Way Is A Chore, But It\u2019s Worth It<\/span><\/h4>\n

Millions and millions of people wear braces. If you\u2019re one of them (or your child)<\/em> be sure to take the time to pay attention to detail. While it requires spending a little more effort before bedtime… In the long run it WILL be worth it.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The purpose of today\u2019s post isn\u2019t<\/span><\/em><\/strong>to go over all the details of caring for teeth with braces. We just want to focus on cleaning them. Your orthodontist has likely already told you lots of do\u2019s and don\u2019ts. But here are a couple little reminders: There are foods you should probably just avoid including<\/strong> taffy, caramels, and hard nuts. And don\u2019t chew ice or bubble gum. Be careful with things that are hard to bite like bagels and apples.<\/p>\n
