{"id":604,"date":"2011-12-09T21:14:58","date_gmt":"2011-12-09T21:14:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/lakeoconeedentalblog.com\/?p=604"},"modified":"2026-06-26T14:40:47","modified_gmt":"2026-06-26T14:40:47","slug":"are-dental-x-rays-safe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lakeoconeedental.com\/blog\/are-dental-x-rays-safe\/","title":{"rendered":"Are Dental X-Rays Safe?"},"content":{"rendered":"<strong>MOST OF OUR PATIENTS KNOW THAT a visit to <strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><a title=\"Lake Oconee Dental Website\" href=\"http:\/\/www.drsbradley.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Lake Oconee Dentistry<\/a><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong> sometimes involves an x-ray or two. <\/strong>And though it\u2019s true that discovering and treating oral problems before they get out of hand is <em>best <\/em>way to save unnecessary time, money, and pain, some people are skeptical about x-rays and have questions about their impact on health.\r\n\r\nWell we have some <strong>good news <\/strong>for those of you with concerns<strong>\u2014x-rays pose very little danger to your health<\/strong><em>\u2026and the amount of radiation you receive during routine x-rays here at our practice is MUCH smaller than the amount you receive daily from natural radiation sources.<\/em>\r\n\r\nExposure to tiny amounts of radiation is a <strong>natural component of life!<\/strong> Each year, the average United States citizen is exposed to about 360 mREM from common things like the earth itself, natural materials, cosmic radiation, and even from<em> other people!<\/em> In fact, the State Department of Health has set the <strong>yearly maximum safe radiation level at 5000 mREM.<\/strong>\r\n\r\nOur <strong>dental x-rays<\/strong> only emit .30 mREM per unit\u2026SO, even if you have a full mouth series taken, you\u2019re still only being exposed to a mere 6 mREM! This means you\u2019d have to have around <strong>60 full-mouth series<\/strong> to really be at risk\u2026and we promise we\u2019ll never need to take that many in a year\u2019s time!\r\n\r\nX-rays are an important part of <strong><a title=\"Visit Our Website\" href=\"http:\/\/www.drsbradley.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">dental care<\/a><\/strong>, as we use them to diagnose problems that we might not otherwise be able to detect.
