Local Dental Assisting School’s 2019 Session Now Open for Enrollment

December 10, 2018

GREENSBORO, GA – According to the U.S. Department of Labor, dental assisting is one of the fastest-growing medical careers, with demand expected to grow steadily over the next several years. Because of this, a long-established dental office is now offering a new training opportunity for people looking to benefit from this industry boom.

Drs. David and Patti Bradley, owners of Lake Oconee Dentistry, are opening a training school for anyone interested in becoming a dental assistant. Assist to Succeed Lake Oconee is currently enrolling students for a new 12-week session, which begins February 2, 2019.

“Many people find it difficult to break into dental assisting because the available programs are too expensive and take too long,” says Dr. David Bradley. “Assist to Succeed is a 12-week program that is held on Saturdays, which makes the training more convenient, efficient and economical for people looking to start a new career.”

The Assist to Succeed curriculum gives students hands-on training to become a successful dental assistant. Students receive 80 hours of lecture and lab with a practicing dentist in a fully-operational dental office. Additionally, students will also be able to learn and observe procedures at specialty offices. Students will earn their Georgia radiology certification and CPR certification as part of the course.

The Saturday classes will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Lake Oconee Dentistry office, located off Highway 44 in Greensboro, between the Publix parking lot and the movie theater. The school is certified through the state of Georgia Non-Public Post Secondary Education Commission.

“Our graduates will be able to get a job in the field because they will have hands-on experience working with patients,” says Dr. Bradley. “Our ultimate goal is to get them hired, and we’re going to give them the tools they need to help make that happen.”

Assist to Succeed Lake Oconee will be holding an informational open house on Wednesday, January 9th at 6 p.m., at the Lake Oconee Dentistry office. Those interested in attending the open house should call 706-347-2635 to reserve your spot, as space is limited. Those who attend the open house may be eligible for $500 off tuition. Tuition includes books and supplies.

89 Area Veterans Receive Free Dental Care

November 19, 2018

Lake Oconee Dentistry hosted its second Stars, Stripes & Smiles event last Friday, November 16th, providing a free day of dental care to 89 area veterans and active military personnel.

Drs. David and Patti Bradley, Dr. Shelly Pound, Dr. Andrea Feldman, and Dr. Jamie Austin, along with Lake Oconee Dentistry hygienists, dental assistants and team members provided servicemen and servicewomen with a choice of a free cleaning, filling or extraction. Dr. David Miller, an oral surgeon and owner of Lake Oconee Oral Surgery and Dental Implant Center, also donated his time, along with his team, in order to help as many people as possible.

The doctors, in cooperation with a team of dental professionals and volunteers, provided 22 extractions, 23 fillings and 52 cleanings, totaling over $15,000 in free care. Lake Oconee Dentistry and Lake Oconee Oral Surgery have been partnering together for several years to provide dentistry for those in need. In total, the practices have donated over $250,000 in free dentistry to the lake area community through various events.

“The majority of veterans do not receive dental benefits through the VA. This event was a way we could thank these men and women for their service, while helping ensure they receive the dental care they need,” said Dr. David Bradley. “It was an honor to serve those who have served our country.  These men and women are truly some of our country’s bravest heroes.”

Free Day of Dentistry for Veterans on November 16th!

October 19, 2018

Lake Oconee Dentistry will once again be hosting Stars, Stripes and Smiles, a free day of dentistry solely for our servicemen and servicewomen, on Friday, November 16th.

Drs. David and Patti Bradley, Dr. Shelly Pound, Dr. Andrea Feldman and Dr. Jamie Austin, as well as Lake Oconee Dentistry hygienists, dental assistants and other team members, will provide veterans with their choice of a free extraction, filling or cleaning that day.  Dr. David Miller, an oral surgeon and owner of Lake Oconee Oral Surgery and Dental Implant Center, will also be donating his time, along with his team, in order to help as many people as possible.

Of the 21 million veterans in the United States, fewer than 10 million are enrolled for US Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) health benefits, and more than 1.2 million lack health insurance altogether. This gap is even more pronounced when it comes to dental care because the VA only provides dental benefits to veterans classified as disabled or as a prisoner of war — or as veterans who have a service-connected dental condition.

“Oftentimes those who have served our country are, unfortunately, among the most under-served when it comes to healthcare,” says Dr. David Bradley. “Stars, Stripes and Smiles is our way of honoring the military veterans who have given so much to ensure our freedom and make this country what it is today.”

This is the second year Lake Oconee Dentistry is hosting this event. Last year, the event provided care to 85 area veterans and active military personnel.

If you are a veteran and are interested in receiving free dental treatment on November 16th, please call the office at 706-453-1333 for an appointment time. You do not have to be a patient of Lake Oconee Dentistry to receive treatment that day. Lake Oconee Dentistry is located off Highway 44 in Greensboro, between the Publix parking lot and the movie theater.

September 8, 2018

A man touching his jaw Most people don’t give their temporomandibular joint (TMJ) a second thought – until there’s a problem! Unfortunately, it’s easy for jaw pain to develop because the TMJ is the most complicated joint in the body. For starters, it’s the only joint that’s bilateral, so the right and left sides have to work together in perfect harmony for everything to function properly. Not to mention that the TMJ also moves in 2 ways (hinging and sliding), whereas most joints in the body only move 1 way. That means that it’s fairly easy for jaw pain to develop if anything is off-track. But, the good news is that a dentist can provide non-surgical TMJ treatment that’s incredibly effective for treating this common condition. Keep reading to learn more!

Lake Oconee Dentistry to Host Blood Drive on August 30th

August 13, 2018

Filed under: Giving Back — @ 3:52 pm

The American Red Cross has announced an emergency need for donations of all blood types to address a critical shortage. To help meet this need, Lake Oconee Dentistry will be hosting a blood drive on Thursday, August 30th. The American Red Cross Bloodmobile will be in the practice’s parking lot and has appointments from 12:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. available that day. Anyone in the community is welcome to participate.

“According to the Red Cross, blood donations are currently being distributed to hospitals faster than they are coming in,” says Dr. David Bradley, co-owner of Lake Oconee Dentistry.  “We have hosted successful blood drives in the past and felt that, given the shortage, now is the perfect time to host another one.”

Every day in the U.S., roughly 41,000 blood donations are needed.  That means nearly every two seconds, someone needs blood.  Just one pint of blood can save three lives.  Although all blood types are needed, there is a particularly critical need for Type O. Type O positive is the most transfused blood type and can be given to patients with any Rh-positive blood type. Type O negative is the universal blood type and can be given to any patient. Emergency workers often reach for Type O blood when there is no time to determine the blood type of patients in the most serious situations.

In an effort to increase the number of donors over the next 30 days, the Red Cross is offering a $5 Amazon gift card to anyone who donates blood by August 30th.  Participants in the Lake Oconee Dentistry blood drive will qualify for this special offer. Those interested in donating are asked to please reserve a time in advance by going to www.redcrossblood.org and entering sponsor code LOD.

Individuals who are 17 years of age, weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood.

“Donating blood is a simple process and makes a huge difference in the lives of others,” says Dr. Bradley. “We are looking forward to a really successful event.”
